Wadajir Party leader and Member of Parliament Abdirahman Abdishakur Warsame has issued an urgent call to the Somali federal government to deploy immediate military support, supplies, and ammunition to reinforce local fighters battling Al-Shabaab militants in the border area between Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle regions.
In a statement released today, the MP addressed the ongoing intense clashes over the past few days between Hawiye clan fighters (Maawiisley from the Hawadle sub-clan) and the Al-Shabaab insurgents. The fighting, which has led to heavy casualties, has seen Al-Shabaab forces suffer significant setbacks.
Abdirahman Abdishakur emphasized that the Somali public is closely watching how the government responds and whether it shoulders its responsibility to back the community-led fight against terrorism.
“This is an existential war. The terrorists are trying to crush the morale and resilience of the Hawadle community in retaliation for the defeat they previously inflicted on Al-Shabaab. The government must act now—with emergency troop deployments, logistics, and weapons support to weaken the group’s grip,” said the MP.
He also praised the Maawiisley fighters for their achievements on the battlefield and their self-reliant defense strategy, urging neighboring communities to join the effort.
“I call on neighboring clans and districts to come to the aid of their brothers. Defending the country and your homeland is a national duty—don’t wait until the enemy knocks on your own doors,” he warned.
His statement comes as fierce fighting continues into its third day, marking nearly 72 hours of clashes in the border zones of Hiiraan and Middle Shabelle between community fighters and Al-Shabaab.
