In an emergency cabinet meeting held today, the Council of Ministers of the Federal Government of Somalia has approved the Ministry of Internal Security’s proposal to reappoint Mahad Mohamed Salad as the Director General of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA).
According to a statement from the Office of Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, “Mahad Mohamed Salad, the new Director General of NISA, brings a wealth of experience and knowledge in national intelligence and security operations. He has previously held several senior positions including Minister, Member of Parliament, and Director of NISA.”
Meanwhile, the Council extended its gratitude to the outgoing NISA chief, Abdullahi Mohamed Ali (Sanbaloolshe), for his service and contributions during his tenure.
This marks a return to familiar territory for Mahad Salad, who held the same post between mid-2022, shortly after President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud was re-elected, and April 2024.
Mahad Salad has also been elected to Somalia’s House of the People three consecutive times, consistently aligning himself politically with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud throughout his parliamentary career.
