Fresh reports have emerged detailing the casualties from a deadly clash that erupted earlier today in Garowe, the capital of Nugal region. The fighting, which broke out around midday, involved two factions of Puntland’s security forces.
The confrontation took place at the eastern checkpoint of Garowe, pitting the Puntland Police against forces from the Puntland Security Force (PSF) arriving from the Bari region. According to reliable sources, the skirmish lasted for some time, resulting in the deaths of two soldiers and injuries to four others, including the Garowe airport security chief.
Sources indicate that the clash was triggered when Puntland police attempted to stop the PSF troops from transporting a government-owned vehicle. The PSF forces reportedly refused to comply, leading to a violent exchange that caused losses on both sides.
So far, Puntland authorities, including police and PSF leadership, have not issued any official statements regarding the incident.
This is not the first time tensions have erupted between these two factions. A similar conflict previously took place in Bosaso, highlighting ongoing friction within Puntland’s security apparatus. The latest clash comes at a time when Puntland is engaged in a major offensive against ISIS militants, focusing its military efforts in the Almiskaad mountains to liberate the region from extremist control.
