The Somali Federal Government has announced the successful elimination of a significant number of Al-Shabaab fighters during a planned military operation carried out in the Lower Shabelle region.
According to a press release from the Ministry of Information, specially trained Danab Commandos conducted a strategic raid on the village of Gaalware, located approximately 4 kilometers east of Sabiid and Aanole in Lower Shabelle. The operation targeted a known Al-Shabaab hideout and resulted in the death of more than 25 militants, including three senior commanders of the group.
The statement further noted that during the mission, Danab forces seized a cache of weapons, including six PKM machine guns, two RPG launchers, and seventeen AK-47 rifles.
Commanders who led the operation confirmed that this is part of a broader offensive strategy and vowed to continue launching similar operations aimed at weakening and dismantling Al-Shabaab’s network.
This high-impact operation comes amid an intense week-long series of clashes between pro-government Ma’awisley fighters from the Hawadle clan and Al-Shabaab insurgents. The fighting has been concentrated between the areas of Ceel Hareeri in Hiraan region and Aadan Yabaal in Middle Shabelle.
