De Havilland Dash 8 Aircraft Makes Safe Emergency Landing in Mogadishu

The pilots promptly initiated a return to Mogadishu and prepared for an emergency landing.

A De Havilland Dash 8 (DHB8) aircraft operated by the United Nations Support Office in Somalia (UNSOS) made a safe emergency landing at Aden Abdulle International Airport on Tuesday following a technical issue with its nose wheel.

According to a press statement issued by the Somali Civil Aviation Authority (SCAA), the aircraft took off from Mogadishu at 11:16 local time, enroute to Baidoa, when the crew detected a problem with the nose wheel. The pilots promptly initiated a return to Mogadishu and prepared for an emergency landing.

“The aircraft safely executed a belly landing at Aden Abdulle International Airport at 13:28 local time. There were no casualties, and damage to the aircraft was minimal,” the SCAA confirmed in the statement.

Authorities are currently working to clear the aircraft from the runway within the next three hours to ensure normal airport operations can resume without further disruptions. Meanwhile, an investigation into the incident is underway to determine the exact cause of the nose wheel failure.
