Djibouti Defense Minister Arrives in Mogadishu for Key East Africa Security Summit

Mogadishu, Somalia — Djibouti’s Minister of Defense, H.E. Hassan Omar Mohamed, arrived in Mogadishu on Tuesday, December 17, 2025, to participate in a high-level regional security meeting hosted by the Federal Republic of Somalia.

The Djiboutian minister was formally received at Aden Adde International Airport by Somalia’s State Minister of Defense, MP Omar Ali Abdi, in a welcome that underscored the close diplomatic and security ties between the two neighboring Horn of Africa countries.

Minister Hassan Omar Mohamed is attending the 35th Ordinary Session of the Council of Ministers of Defense and Security of the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF), a major regional forum bringing together defense leaders from across East Africa. The session focuses on strengthening collective security cooperation and addressing shared security challenges within the region.

According to officials, discussions during the meeting will center on reviewing the regional security landscape, enhancing coordination among EASF member states, and aligning priorities for the force’s 2026 operational roadmap.

The ministerial session marks the culmination of a series of meetings held in Mogadishu this week, following earlier deliberations by technical experts and Chiefs of Defense Staff. Somalia’s hosting of the summit highlights its growing role in regional security engagement and its commitment to contributing to collective peace and stability efforts across East Africa.

The visit also reflects the enduring partnership between Somalia and Djibouti, particularly in advancing regional security and defense cooperation through multilateral frameworks such as the EASF.
