Cairo — Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Wednesday reiterated Ankara’s rejection of Israel’s recognition of Somaliland, warning that the move threatens Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and must be opposed by the international community.
Speaking at a joint press conference in Cairo with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, Erdogan said any decision concerning Somalia’s future must reflect the collective will of its people. “Steps concerning the future of Somalia and Somaliland should reflect the will of all Somalis,” he said, stressing that Türkiye does not accept what it views as external interference in Somali affairs.
The remarks came during high-level talks between Turkey and Egypt focused on regional stability, with Somalia and the Horn of Africa featuring prominently on the agenda. Both leaders reaffirmed their support for the unity and territorial integrity of Somalia and agreed to intensify consultations on regional issues.
Erdogan said Ankara “does not recognize decisions related to Somaliland,” adding that Israel’s move sets a dangerous precedent for territorial disputes
