EU Mission Trains Somali Forces in Strategic Communication

MOGADISHU — The European Union Training Mission in Somalia (EUTM-Somalia) has conducted a series of seminars and training sessions aimed at strengthening strategic communication skills within the Somali National Army and other security institutions.
According to officials, two dedicated seminars were organized for Public Information Officers (PIOs), bringing together 22 trainers from the Somali National Army alongside PIOs from AUSSOM. The sessions focused on effective communication techniques, teamwork, local ownership, and enhanced cooperation among security institutions.
In addition to the in-person seminars, EUTM-Somalia conducted 11 computer-based training sessions over the course of the year. These online seminars provided digital skills training to 94 SNA personnel and civilian staff, with the aim of improving operational efficiency and modernizing communication practices.
EUTM-Somalia said the training outcomes reflect strong cooperation between international partners and Somali institutions, as well as a shared commitment to local ownership. Officials noted that the initiative supports Somali-led efforts to modernize strategic communications and build sustainable institutional capacity for the future.
