Farmaajo Kicks Off High-Stakes Political Maneuvers for 2026 Election

These meetings mark the first steps in what appears to be a well-calculated comeback strategy for the 2026 presidential race.

Former Somali President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmaajo has officially launched a series of political engagements from Qatar, signaling his intent to play a key role in the 2026 elections.

As the 9th President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Farmaajo has begun holding meetings with lawmakers, politicians, and influential figures to discuss the country’s political landscape, security situation, and upcoming elections.

These meetings mark the first steps in what appears to be a well-calculated comeback strategy for the 2026 presidential race.

In a recent high-profile meeting held on Friday, Farmaajo sat down with Somali MP Abdilatif Muse Nur (Sanyare), who represents Puntland in the House of the People. The discussions reportedly covered critical topics, including electoral plans, national security, and counterterrorism efforts.

Following the meeting, MP Sanyare released a statement confirming a series of discussions with Farmaajo in Doha. He emphasized that their talks revolved around Somalia’s political future, security challenges, counterterrorism efforts against IS and Al-Shabaab, national unity, and the 2026 elections.

He further noted that there was a mutual understanding on key issues, hinting at a potential new political alliance ahead of the 2026 elections.

Farmaajo remains a vocal critic of the Somali government’s plan to implement a one-person, one-vote electoral system—a contentious issue that has fueled a major political rift between President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and the opposition.
