Former Galmudug President Calls for Inclusive Technical Committees Ahead of National Dialogue

Former President of Galmudug, Abdikarim Hussein Guled, has urged the Federal Government of Somalia to establish inclusive technical committees before June 15th—the date proposed by President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud for a national consultative conference.

In a press statement, Guled emphasized that forming these technical committees, comprised of representatives from all relevant stakeholders, is essential to ensure the conference is productive and yields long-term political solutions to the country’s current crises.

He reiterated the necessity of establishing these committees before the start of the conference, highlighting their role in aligning on key foundational issues critical to the success of the talks.

Guled also underlined the importance of having a negotiated and inclusive agenda, where all parties can contribute to setting priorities. This, he argued, is the only way to meaningfully resolve Somalia’s deepening political gridlock.

Finally, he proposed that, to make the best use of time and promote unity of purpose, all ongoing dialogue efforts should be consolidated into a single, inclusive platform.

His remarks come amid growing concerns that the long-anticipated national consultative conference may face delays yet again. The meeting, initiated by President Hassan Sheikh, aims to forge consensus on contentious national issues such as the provisional constitution, the 2026 elections, national security, and the status of politically disputed federal member states.
