Historic Recognition: PM Hamza Declares SSC-Khaatumo an Official Federal Member State

Hamza officially declared SSC-Khaatumo a recognized Somali administration, stating it now stands as part of the federal framework.

In a landmark announcement, Prime Minister of the Federal Government of Somalia, Hamza Abdi Barre, has formally recognized SSC-Khaatumo as an official administrative entity within Somalia. The announcement came during his ongoing visit to Lasanod, where he met with local elders, civil society representatives, and the top leadership of SSC-Khaatumo.

In a powerful and symbolic speech, Prime Minister Hamza assured the people of SSC-Khaatumo that they will enjoy the same rights and privileges as any other federal member state in Somalia. He urged their leadership to move beyond the transitional phase and work towards a fully established, permanent governance structure.

“It fills me with joy and pride to see how united you have stood in defense of Somalia’s unity and its national flag. Tonight, the blue flag flies high over much of the northern regions—a testament to your commitment. At a time when Somalis need peace and unity more than ever, my visit to Lasanod reflects our shared commitment to those ideals,” said the Prime Minister.

Following his address, Hamza officially declared SSC-Khaatumo a recognized Somali administration, stating it now stands as part of the federal framework.

“The Federal Government of Somalia formally acknowledges the legitimacy of your formation process, which aligns with the Provisional Constitution and national legal standards,” he emphasized.

He went further to state unequivocally:

“Let me be clear—SSC is Somali territory, governed by Somali citizens, and is now part of the Federal Republic of Somalia. There is no ambiguity or dispute about its status.”

In a significant political development, SSC-Khaatumo will, for the first time, participate in the upcoming National Consultative Council meeting in Mogadishu. Their leader, President Abdulkadir Firdhiye, has officially accepted the invitation extended by the president.

This invitation was publicly confirmed by PM Hamza, who announced Firdhiye’s attendance at the national forum, where several federal member states will also be present. Notably, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud has excluded Jubbaland’s leader from this round of talks, while political tensions continue with Puntland’s leadership.

Prime Minister Hamza reiterated the federal government’s unwavering support for SSC-Khaatumo, affirming its recognition of the region’s efforts to establish a legitimate, representative administration for its people.
