Jubaland leader Honors AFRICOM Officers for Counterterrorism Support

KISMAYO — Jubaland President Ahmed Mohamed Islam has recognized United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) special operations officers for their role in supporting security operations against Al-Shabaab in the Jubaland region, officials said.

During a morale-boosting meeting in Kismayo, President Islam praised the officers for their cooperation with local security forces, particularly in training, operational coordination, and recent counterterrorism missions that dealt significant blows to the militant group in several parts of Jubaland.

He commended the AFRICOM personnel for their professionalism, bravery, and close collaboration with Jubaland’s security agencies, noting that the partnership has helped strengthen local capacity and improve overall regional stability.

In recognition of their contributions, President Islam presented the officers with Medals of Honor and Certificates of Appreciation, highlighting their role in enhancing security and supporting ongoing efforts to protect civilians.

Officials said the continued partnership between Jubaland forces and U.S. special operations remains a key element in the region’s fight against Al-Shabaab, contributing to broader peace and stability initiatives.

President Islam reaffirmed Jubaland’s commitment to deepening cooperation with international partners as security operations against extremist groups continue.
