In the city of Dhusamareb, the capital of Galmudug, a parliamentary by-election was held today to fill one of the vacant seats in Somalia’s House of the People. The election successfully filled seat HOP#049, previously held by Mustafa Sheikh Ali Dhuhulow.
The newly elected MP is Mohamed Abdi Ali Farah, who now officially joins the House of the People. Mustafa Dhuhulow lost his parliamentary membership after being appointed as the Director-General of Somalia’s Immigration and Citizenship Agency.
Mohamed Abdi Ali Farah, the new MP, is the son of prominent businessman Abdi Ali Farah, a well-known figure from Galmudug.
Meanwhile, three more parliamentary seats remain vacant. These include the seat left open by Abdullahi Mohamed Ali (Sanbaloolshe) after his appointment as Director of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) and two additional seats following the passing of Khadija Mohamed Diriye and Mahmoud Mohamed Seeseey.
This election process follows a directive issued by Sheikh Aden Madobe, the Speaker of the House of the People, instructing the electoral commission to urgently fill the vacant seats.
