More than 110,000 people have been displaced by the latest wave of violent clashes across Somalia, according to a recent report by the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).
The report highlights ongoing conflicts in Puntland, where government forces are battling ISIS-affiliated militants, as well as intensified fighting between Al-Shabaab and government troops in the Lower and Middle Shabelle regions. These conflicts have driven over 100,000 people from their homes.
OCHA notes that many of the newly displaced face immense challenges in securing shelter and meeting their basic needs such as food, water, and healthcare.
Additionally, the report points to recurring inter-clan violence in other parts of the country, which has forced tens of thousands more to flee in recent months.
In its conclusion, the report issues an urgent call for humanitarian assistance to address the growing needs of the displaced population—especially in the form of food aid, shelter, and medical care.
