In a significant counterterrorism operation, Puntland’s Daraawiish forces captured approximately 2,000 homemade missiles intended for attacks on civilians and security forces. The missiles, reportedly manufactured by ISIS militants, were seized during a raid on Thursday in the Calmiskaad Mountains, East region.
Additionally, Puntland forces overran makeshift factories used by ISIS to produce these weapons, dealing a major blow to the group’s operational capabilities. The offensive targeted a critical ISIS base where explosives were also being prepared, exposing the high-risk activities thwarted by the security forces.
Over the past few days, Puntland forces have achieved substantial gains in their mission to eliminate ISIS strongholds in the region. As the offensive intensifies, ISIS militants have been abandoning key positions, leading to the seizure of facilities used for making explosives and missiles.
In their latest success, Puntland forces took control of Ceelka Dharinta, a hideout for ISIS fighters who had fled from Jecel Valley. General Maxamuud Faadhigo, the spokesperson for the counterterrorism operation, stated:
“Our forces strategically advanced and secured Ceelka Dharinta, where escaping terrorists attempted to take refuge. However, we successfully intercepted and neutralized their plans.”
With Puntland forces gaining ground, ISIS strongholds in the region continue to collapse, marking a crucial victory in the fight against terrorism.
