Somalia’s Prime Minister, Hamza Abdi Barre, hosted the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Mahmoud Ali Youssouf, at his office today as part of the AU official’s two-day working visit to the country.
Their meeting focused on strengthening the partnership between Somalia and the African Union, with particular emphasis on security cooperation, the fight against Al-Shabaab, and the evolving role of the AU Transition Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM).
Prime Minister Hamza expressed gratitude for Youssouf’s visit, highlighting its significance as a testament to the AU’s commitment to Somalia’s stability. He also underscored the Somali government’s recent successes in combating terrorism, describing these efforts as crucial to the overall security of the region.
In response, AU Chair Youssouf thanked Somali leaders for their warm welcome and reaffirmed the Union’s continued support for Somalia’s government and people.
As part of his visit, Youssouf is also scheduled to meet with President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud to further discuss AU-Somalia relations and regional security matters.
