PM Hamza Barre Joins Troops for Eid Prayers, Calls for Unity Against Al-Shabaab

After the prayer, Barre greeted attendees and praised their dedication throughout the fasting period.

Somali Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre observed Eid al-Fitr alongside Somali National Army (SNA) personnel and local community members in the KM-50 area of Lower Shabelle on Sunday morning, marking the conclusion of Ramadan.

After the prayer, Barre greeted attendees and praised their dedication throughout the fasting period.
“May the Almighty accept your fasting, prayers, charity, and sacrifices made over the past 30 days, and fortify you on your spiritual journey,” he expressed.

Speaking to the gathering, the Prime Minister urged Lower Shabelle residents to stand together in the nationwide effort to combat Al-Shabaab.
“We must all join together in the fight against Al-Shabaab. As you can see, operations are ongoing in many parts of the country,” he emphasized.

Somalia’s armed forces—bolstered by clan militias and international allies—have made notable territorial advances in Galmudug, Hirshabelle, and sections of Lower Shabelle. However, Al-Shabaab continues to maintain strongholds in remote regions, where it executes guerrilla-style attacks.

The militant faction, officially recognized as a terrorist organization by Somalia, the United States, and the United Nations, has waged an insurgency for over 15 years in an attempt to topple the federal government and enforce its rigid interpretation of Islamic law.
