PM Hamza Hails “Brotherly Partnership” as Somalia Marks Qatar National Day in Mogadishu

Somalia’s Prime Minister, Hamza Abdi Barre, on Tuesday attended a high-level ceremony in Mogadishu marking the National Day of the State of Qatar, underscoring the deepening diplomatic and development partnership between the two nations.

The event — held ahead of Qatar’s official National Day celebration on December 18 — honored the country’s historic unification in 1878 under its founder, Sheikh Jassim bin Mohammed Al Thani. The holiday, formally established in 2007, commemorates Qatar’s national identity, unity, and the struggle that shaped the modern state.

In his remarks, Prime Minister Hamza conveyed warm congratulations to Qatar’s leadership and people. He expressed gratitude for Qatar’s continuous political, economic, and humanitarian support to Somalia, particularly during periods of stabilization and reconstruction.

The Prime Minister emphasized that the relationship between Somalia and Qatar has evolved beyond traditional diplomacy, describing it as a partnership rooted in “brotherhood, cooperation, and mutual benefit.” He highlighted the strengthening of diplomatic, trade, and development ties, noting that both countries share aligned goals for growth and long-term stability.

“Somalia and Qatar are bonded by common interests and shared development aspirations,” Prime Minister Hamza said, acknowledging Doha’s key role in supporting infrastructure and humanitarian efforts across Somalia.

The ceremony in Mogadishu reflected the close and expanding alliance between the two nations, with Qatar remaining one of Somalia’s most consistent partners in state-building, economic development, and humanitarian assistance.
