Prominent Journalist Cali Aadan Mumin Freed—Who Helped Secure His Release?

Meanwhile, sources obtained by Akhbar Media indicate that Galmudug President Ahmed Abdi Kariye (Qoor Qoor) played a key role in securing Mumin’s freedom.

Somali police last night released journalist Ali Adan Mumin, one of the most well-known reporters in Mogadishu, known for his active presence on social media.

Two nights prior, the police command for the region had confirmed his arrest, citing charges of “threatening security and insulting the leadership.”

“The Somali Police Force, specifically the Hamar-Weyne Police Station, has arrested suspect Ali Adan Mumin on charges of security threats and defamation of leadership,” read a statement from the Banadir Regional Police Command at the time.

Although authorities initially stated that Mumin would be brought before a court, he was unexpectedly released last night. Announcing his freedom on his official Facebook page, Mumin wrote: “I am a mix of sweet and bitter. Right now, I am free.”

Close friends of the journalist also confirmed his release but did not provide further details.

Meanwhile, sources obtained by Akhbar Media indicate that Galmudug President Ahmed Abdi Kariye (Qoor Qoor) played a key role in securing Mumin’s freedom.

His arrest sparked widespread criticism of the government, with opposition politicians and former leaders strongly condemning the move. Many viewed it as an attempt to suppress press freedom and stifle free speech.
