Fresh fighting has erupted in Beled-Hawo town, Gedo region, as forces loyal to the Federal Government of Somalia and Jubbaland State engage in heavy clashes within the town’s neighborhoods.
According to reports from local sources, intense gunfire broke out around the Federal Government military camp, commonly known as the “UK Camp,” located in the Waaberi neighborhood of Beled-Hawo. The confrontation is the latest in a series of power struggles between rival forces vying for control of the strategic border town near Kenya.
There are confirmed reports of casualties on both sides, including deaths and injuries, although the exact figures remain unclear due to the ongoing nature of the conflict.
The renewed fighting has forced many residents of Beled-Hawo to flee their homes in search of safety, escalating concerns of a looming humanitarian crisis in the region.
This latest escalation underscores the fragile security dynamics in Gedo, where tensions between Jubbaland and Federal forces have repeatedly flared, often resulting in civilian displacement and disruption of daily life.
