Former Director of Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), Fahad Yaasiin, has released a statement titled “The Conspiracy Against the Somali National Army.” In it, he boldly claims that over the past three years, the Somali National Army has been the target of a calculated and destructive plot.
According to Fahad, two high-ranking officials within the Ministry of Defense were actively involved in executing this conspiracy, which he alleges was devised by a foreign government. These individuals, he claims, were entrusted with dismantling the Somali military from within.
While Fahad does not name the accused in his statement, he offers clues that suggest their identities. References point to the immediate former Minister of Defense, who handed over the Ministry just two days ago, and the former army chief who had previously handed over command to General Odowa. He also alludes to the involvement of the United Arab Emirates as a backer of the alleged plot.
Here is Fahad Yaasiin’s statement:
Over the past three years, the Somali National Army fell victim to a scheme masterminded by a Gulf state. Two individuals—each occupying powerful positions—became the hands executing this foreign agenda. They employed ruthless tactics to achieve their goals.
Never before in the history of the Somali Army have such levels of damage been inflicted by insiders. The Somali people deserve a clear explanation of the nature and extent of this betrayal.
One of these individuals even acted as a double agent, serving the interests of both a foreign power and Al-Shabaab, despite their different end goals but shared objectives.
The foreign power succeeded in appointing him as Minister of Defense during the previous presidency, though their initial plan failed due to a vigilant army command at the time.
Unfortunately, he was later reappointed to the ministry to carry out the plan again. The second individual was placed at the helm of the army by the current president.
