Somali and Ugandan Forces Repel Al-Shabaab Assault, 18 Militants Killed

The Federal Government of Somalia has released a detailed statement on the casualties resulting from the recent armed clash in the Sabiid and Caanoole areas, where Al-Shabaab militants launched a dawn attack on military outposts.

In an official press release, the Ministry of Defence confirmed that joint Somali National Army (SNA) and Ugandan forces—operating under the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS)—successfully repelled the coordinated assault. The ministry emphasized that the allied forces inflicted significant losses on the militant group, neutralizing 18 Al-Shabaab fighters during the intense engagement.

“The National Army, who were on high alert and fully prepared, responded swiftly and decisively to the attack, thwarting the terrorists’ attempts to penetrate the area. The brave soldiers managed to dismantle Al-Shabaab’s plans and dealt a severe blow to their fighters. During the battle, 18 members of the Khawaarij (a derogatory term for Al-Shabaab) were eliminated,” read the Ministry’s statement.

However, the clash did not come without sacrifices. The Ministry of Defence also confirmed that four government soldiers lost their lives during the confrontation.

The Ministry lauded the heroism and resilience displayed by the Somali National Army in defending Sabiid and Caanoole, recognizing their unwavering commitment in the face of a fierce terrorist assault.
