Fresh details have emerged about a pre-dawn operation carried out earlier today by the Somali National Army (SNA) against Al-Shabaab militants in Birta Dheer, a rural settlement under Garbahaarey district in Gedo region.
According to reports, the offensive followed intelligence indicating that Al-Shabaab fighters had been gathering in and around Birta Dheer. The SNA launched a surprise assault, sparking heavy fighting. Both sides are believed to have suffered casualties, although no official figures have been released so far.
Military officials confirmed that the attack unfolded as planned, with government troops dismantling several Al-Shabaab bases and hideouts in the area.
Commanders described the raid as part of an ongoing campaign to flush Al-Shabaab out of Gedo region completely. They emphasized that similar operations will continue until all militant strongholds are eliminated from the region.
