Somalia’s President, Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, has received an official invitation from Russian President Vladimir Putin to attend an upcoming summit between Russia and the leaders of the Arab League, scheduled to take place soon in Moscow.
The invitation was formally delivered at Villa Somalia by Mr. Mikhail L. Bogdanov, Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister and Special Presidential Envoy for the Middle East and Africa. During their meeting, President Hassan Sheikh and Mr. Bogdanov also discussed ways to strengthen the bilateral relationship between Somalia and Russia.
The summit reflects President Putin’s broader diplomatic outreach to Arab nations. Recently, during a meeting with the Sultan of Oman in Moscow, Putin reaffirmed Russia’s commitment to deepening ties with Arab countries. Key topics expected on the summit’s agenda include the situations in Gaza and Syria, along with Russia’s ambition to expand its partnerships across the Arab world.
