Somalia Defense Minister and U.S. Ambassador Deepen Security Ties Against Al-Shabaab and ISIS

Somalia’s Minister of Defense, Ahmed Moalim Fiqi, held a productive meeting in Mogadishu with the U.S. Ambassador to Somalia, Richard H. Riley. The two leaders discussed the longstanding security partnership between Somalia and the United States and explored ways to strengthen their deep-rooted cooperation.

Minister Fiqi expressed gratitude for the U.S. government’s continued support in the fight against terrorist groups such as Al-Shabaab and ISIS.

“I’m pleased to meet with Ambassador Riley. The United States remains a key partner in Somalia’s security efforts. We deeply appreciate their consistent support, and we look forward to elevating our defense collaboration as we jointly confront Al-Shabaab and ISIS,” the Minister shared on his official X (formerly Twitter) account.

On his first day in office, Minister Fiqi had pledged to reinforce Somalia’s security cooperation with international partners.

The United States is one of Somalia’s most important allies, providing comprehensive support that includes military training, logistics, and air support to help build a secure and stable Somalia.
