Following a major battle yesterday, Somalia’s Minister of Defense, Jibriil Abdirashid Haji, has issued a strong public statement commending the Somali National Army for a successful offensive against the Al-Shabaab terrorist group. He praised both the national forces and the South West State’s Dervish troops for their bravery and effectiveness in a joint operation.
The coordinated attack took place in Burujeed village, near the Daynuunay area in the Bay region, where nearly 40 Al-Shabaab militants, including a foreign commander, were killed.
“I extend my heartfelt congratulations to the Somali National Army and South West Dervish forces for their victorious operation against the Khawarij enemy in Burujeed. This mission marks a turning point in the campaign to eradicate the extremist group that continues to inflict suffering on our people,” the Minister said.
He prayed for the souls of the fallen heroes and wished a swift recovery to those wounded in the ongoing military campaign.
In his address, the Minister called upon the Somali people to stand firmly with the armed forces, who risk their lives daily to liberate the country from terrorist elements. He emphasized that peace and stability will only be possible once extremist groups—particularly Al-Shabaab—are completely eliminated from Somalia.
The Minister’s message comes at a critical time, as Al-Shabaab attempts to regroup and launch counterattacks on previously liberated areas, viewing them as strategic to their operations. However, government forces have already thwarted several such attempts.
