CAIRO, Egypt — Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, has reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to multilateral diplomacy during the Second Ministerial Conference of the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum, held in Cairo from December 19 to 20, 2025.
Speaking at the high-level gathering, Minister Abdisalam emphasized Somalia’s foreign policy priorities and stressed that today’s complex global and regional challenges cannot be solved through unilateral actions. He called for collective solutions based on mutual respect, shared responsibility, and adherence to international law, noting that effective cooperation is essential to addressing issues such as security threats, climate change, food insecurity, and economic instability.
The foreign minister highlighted the need for an integrated approach linking peace and security with economic development and humanitarian support, arguing that sustainable stability in Africa depends on coordinated international engagement. He pointed out that Somalia’s recovery and state-building efforts have benefited from international solidarity and African-led initiatives.
Minister Abdisalam welcomed the Russia–Africa Partnership Forum as an important platform for structured dialogue and cooperation, describing it as complementary to existing global frameworks. He also called for a more balanced and just international system, predictable development financing, and improved access to modern technology to support sustainable growth and climate resilience, particularly for vulnerable countries like Somalia.
The two-day conference brought together African foreign ministers, senior Russian officials, and representatives of regional organizations to assess progress since the first forum held in Sochi in November 2024. Discussions focused on strengthening cooperation in diplomacy, trade, security, energy, and economic development, offering Somalia an opportunity to engage partners on shared priorities and future collaboration.
Minister Abdisalam also expressed appreciation to Egypt for hosting the forum and reaffirmed Somalia’s support for a rules-based international order grounded in the United Nations Charter and peaceful dispute resolution.
