The highly anticipated National Consultative Council (NCC) summit, originally scheduled to open tomorrow, June 22, in Mogadishu, has been officially postponed. According to a brief statement from the Federal Government of Somalia, the delay is due to the country’s preparations to mark Independence Week.
The statement explained:
“In recognition of the significance of Independence Week and the preparations for its commemoration, the National Consultative Council Summit, initially scheduled by His Excellency Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of the Federal Republic of Somalia, for June 22, 2025, has been rescheduled to take place on July 15, 2025, insha’Allah.”
The summit, now set for July 15, is expected to bring together top national leaders, including representatives from some Federal Member States and the Mayor of Mogadishu, who also serves as the Governor of the Banadir region.
However, it remains unclear whether leaders from Puntland and Jubbaland, who have been at odds with the Federal Government, will attend the rescheduled summit.
