Justice and Unity Party Makes Official Debut in Mogadishu Amid High-Profile Launch

A major milestone in Somalia’s political landscape was marked last night in Mogadishu with the official launch of the Justice and Unity Political Party (JSP). The party’s founding congress brought together over 2,700 official delegates from across the country—representing a wide cross-section of Somali society committed to advancing the new party’s vision.

During the congress, delegates formally adopted the party’s constitution and internal regulations, and elected both the Executive Committee and the Party Leader, who will also serve as the party’s presidential candidate.

President Dr. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, who was elected as the party’s leader and presidential candidate, addressed the congress, emphasizing the vital role of multiparty democracy, national cohesion, and unity in Somalia’s political future.

Other key figures who delivered remarks included Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, Deputy Prime Minister, and several Cabinet Ministers. They praised the formation of JSP, seeing it as a positive step in reshaping the country’s political direction toward inclusivity, institutional reform, and long-term stability.

Also, in attendance and delivering speeches were:

  • Abdicaziz Hassan Mohamed (Laftagareen), President of South West State and now Deputy Chair of JSP;
  • Ahmed Abdi Kariye, President of Galmudug;
  • Ali Abdullahi Hussein, President of Hirshabelle;
  • Abdiqadir Ahmed Aw-Ali, Leader of SSC-Khaatumo;
  • Mohamed Ahmed Amir, Mayor of Mogadishu and Governor of the Banadir Region.
