Somalia, Sudan Sign Diplomatic Passport Visa Waiver Agreement

Mogadishu — The Federal Republic of Somalia and the Republic of Sudan have signed a mutual visa exemption agreement for holders of diplomatic passports, in a move aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and facilitating official engagement between the two countries.

The agreement was concluded on April 2 during the second session of the Somalia–Sudan Political Consultation Committee. The meeting was co-chaired by Hamza Adan Haadow, Permanent Secretary at Somalia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, and Ambassador Muawiya Osman Khalid, Undersecretary at Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Under the deal, diplomats from both countries will be able to travel without visa requirements, easing official visits and enhancing diplomatic coordination.

Officials said the discussions focused on expanding cooperation across political, economic, and educational sectors, as well as strengthening institutional capacity-building efforts. Both sides also agreed to improve coordination on regional and international issues, reflecting growing ties between Mogadishu and Khartoum.

Somalia also reaffirmed its support for Sudan’s security, stability, and territorial integrity, expressing solidarity with the Sudanese people amid ongoing challenges in the country.

The agreement marks a step forward in formalizing diplomatic cooperation as both nations seek to deepen engagement and strengthen regional partnerships.
