“This Is the Year”: Somaliland Sets Bold Timeline for International Recognition

Somaliland’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Essa Kayd (also known as Abdirahman Dahir Aadan), has expressed strong optimism that Somaliland could achieve international recognition before the end of this year.

Speaking from the United States, the Minister urged all Somaliland citizens—especially the diaspora—to unite in support of this national goal.
“I truly believe recognition will not pass us by this year,” he declared. “What we need most is unity—standing shoulder to shoulder, working together with one heart and one voice to make this dream a reality.”

He emphasized that the momentum behind Somaliland’s quest for sovereignty has been building steadily year after year. The people of Somaliland, he said, have made it clear that they will never abandon their pursuit of full independence.

Over the past week, the Minister has held high-level meetings with U.S. lawmakers from both the Senate and the House of Representatives who support Somaliland’s cause. He stated that the interests of Somaliland and the United States are closely aligned and can be mutually reinforced.

Somaliland has garnered increasing support among members of the U.S. Congress, and a bill has been introduced in both chambers advocating for its formal recognition.
