Additional reports have emerged regarding a well-planned operation carried out by the Maawiisley community militia in the Gulane area of Somalia’s Middle Shabelle region.
The operation, which took place yesterday afternoon, resulted in the deaths of two senior Al-Shabaab commanders and several members of their security detail.
The slain commanders were identified as Ali Abukar Mohamed Saqle, commonly known as “Ali Xabad”, and Mohamed Adow Isse. Two of their bodyguards were also killed at the scene.
Speaking to state media, Commander of the Maawiisley militia in the Gulane sector, Ahmed Dhagey Hurshow, confirmed the success of the mission and said it unfolded exactly as planned.
“These commanders were key figures in orchestrating attacks in the Middle Shabelle region. Their reign of terror has ended today through this blessed operation,” said Commander Hurshow.
He also emphasized that similar targeted operations against Al-Shabaab leaders in the region will continue until the militant group is completely driven out of Middle Shabelle.
