Mogadishu Port Moves Toward Modernization Through Talks with Abu Dhabi Ports Group

MOGADISHU / ABU DHABI — December 14, 2025 — The Director General of Mogadishu International Port, Ambassador Mohamed Ali Nur Americo, has held high-level talks in Abu Dhabi with Mohamed Eidha Al Menhali, Regional CEO of Abu Dhabi Ports Group for Africa, aimed at strengthening cooperation to modernize and expand Mogadishu Port.

The meeting focused on strategic initiatives to upgrade port infrastructure, improve operational efficiency, and explore investment and technical cooperation opportunities. Both sides discussed practical ways to enhance productivity at the port while supporting sustainable growth in regional trade.

Ambassador Americo said the discussions form part of ongoing efforts to align Mogadishu Port with international standards. He emphasized the importance of transforming the facility into a modern logistics hub capable of supporting Somalia’s economic development and expanding commercial links across the Horn of Africa.

He noted that an upgraded port would play a critical role in facilitating trade, attracting investment, and strengthening Somalia’s position along major maritime trade routes.

The Abu Dhabi Ports Group delegation highlighted the value of partnership and technical collaboration in improving port services and boosting regional connectivity. Both parties acknowledged Mogadishu Port’s strategic location and its growing importance in regional and international commerce.

The talks reflect Somalia’s broader push to revitalize key infrastructure and position Mogadishu Port as a central gateway for trade in the Horn of Africa, with cooperation from established global port operators seen as a key driver of that vision.
