Somalia Army Ground Forces Chief Inspects Security Operations Along Shabelle River

SHABELLE MIDDLE, Somalia — The Commander of the Somali National Army’s Ground Forces, Brigadier General Sahal Abdullahi Omar, carried out an official inspection on December 16, 2025, in areas along the Shabelle River in the Middle Shabelle region, as part of efforts to assess security conditions and ongoing military operations.

The visit focused on evaluating the security situation in riverine communities and reviewing progress in current operations being conducted by Somali National Army forces in the area. General Sahal was accompanied by senior military officers during the tour.

As part of the visit, the Ground Forces chief held meetings with the Balcad district administration, led by District Commissioner Qasim Ali Nur, as well as with military commanders stationed in areas along the river. Discussions centered on local security conditions, coordination between civil authorities and the military, and the protection of recently secured areas.

General Sahal praised the commitment and sacrifices of Somali National Army troops, commending their role in maintaining security and countering militant groups operating in the region. He urged commanders and soldiers to intensify their duties in defending the country and strengthening stability in liberated areas.

The Somali National Army is currently conducting large-scale operations aimed at dismantling armed groups opposed to peace and stability. Officials say these operations have yielded positive results, contributing to improved security and greater stability for communities across parts of Middle Shabelle.
