The Somali National Army (SNA) has killed 15 Al-Shabaab militants, including three senior commanders, during a planned security operation in the Bakool region, military officials said.
According to the Ministry of Defence and the SNA, the operation was carried out in the Moora Gaabey area, approximately 30 kilometres northeast of Hudur (Xudur), the administrative capital of Bakool. The raid targeted hideouts used by Al-Shabaab fighters who had been involved in attacks and intimidation against local civilians.
Military officials said the three senior operatives killed during the operation played a direct role in orchestrating insecurity in the area. No casualties among government forces were reported.
The operation is part of ongoing efforts by Somali security forces to dismantle Al-Shabaab networks and restore peace and stability in regions affected by militant activity. Authorities said such operations are aimed at protecting civilians and preventing the group from regrouping or launching further attacks.
The Ministry of Defence reaffirmed that the Somali National Army will continue its offensive against militant groups until lasting peace and full security are achieved across the country.
Al-Shabaab, an al-Qaeda-linked group, has been fighting the Somali government for more than a decade and remains a major security threat despite sustained military pressure from Somali forces and their allies.
