Somalia Reaffirms Support for Yemen’s Unity Amid Rising Regional Tensions

Mogadishu, Somalia — Somalia has reaffirmed its firm support for the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Yemen, rejecting any actions that could undermine the country’s constitutional legitimacy or weaken its national institutions, according to an official government statement released on Tuesday.

The Federal Republic of Somalia said it stands fully behind Yemen’s internationally recognised government and stressed that the conflict must be resolved through a Yemeni-led political process that preserves state sovereignty and reflects the aspirations of the Yemeni people for security, stability and development.

In the statement, Mogadishu also praised Saudi Arabia’s role in supporting Yemen’s security and regional stability, highlighting Riyadh’s political, diplomatic and humanitarian efforts to end the conflict and advance a comprehensive peace process in line with internationally recognised frameworks. Somalia further commended the Saudi-led coalition backing Yemen’s government, saying its actions are aimed at protecting state institutions, safeguarding Yemen’s territorial integrity and supporting political efforts to restore stability.

Somalia expressed full solidarity with Saudi Arabia, reiterating its rejection of any threats to the kingdom’s security, international maritime navigation or broader regional stability. The government warned that actions undermining security in Yemen could have serious consequences for shipping routes in the Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden, which are vital to global trade and closely linked to stability in the Horn of Africa.

“The security and stability of Yemen constitute a fundamental pillar for the security of the Red Sea, the Gulf of Aden and the Horn of Africa,” the statement said, urging the international community to continue supporting efforts toward a sustainable political settlement that would end the conflict and restore Yemen’s stability and regional role.

The remarks come amid heightened regional tensions, including disputes involving separatist forces and foreign involvement in Yemen, as well as increased concerns over maritime security along some of the world’s most strategic sea lanes.
