MOGADISHU, Somalia — Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre on Thursday received China’s Ambassador to Somalia, Wang Yu, for high-level talks focused on opposing what Mogadishu described as Israeli interference in Somalia’s territorial sovereignty and strengthening bilateral political and security cooperation.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Barre reaffirmed the Federal Government’s firm commitment to defending national interests and safeguarding Somalia’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. He also outlined ongoing efforts to combat terrorist groups as part of broader measures to achieve lasting security and stability across the country.
Ambassador Wang Yu reiterated Beijing’s full support for Somalia’s territorial integrity and political unity, stressing that China respects Somalia’s independence and stands alongside the Somali government and its people. He said China’s position remains rooted in defending national sovereignty and opposing external actions that undermine it.
The prime minister expressed appreciation for China’s principled stance and its swift diplomatic response, highlighting Beijing’s position during a recent United Nations Security Council session in which Chinese diplomats defended Somalia’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.
The meeting underscored continued coordination between Mogadishu and Beijing amid heightened diplomatic tensions following Israel’s recent actions, with both sides emphasizing close cooperation on political, security, and diplomatic fronts.
