Somalia and Saudi Arabia Reaffirm Support for Sovereignty in Riyadh Talks

Riyadh — Somalia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, met his Saudi counterpart, Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah Al Saud, in Riyadh on Sunday, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to Somalia’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.

According to statements from both governments, the meeting focused on strengthening bilateral relations and coordinating positions on regional and international issues of mutual concern. Minister Abdisalam expressed Somalia’s deep appreciation for Saudi Arabia’s consistent diplomatic support, praising the kingdom’s solidarity with the Somali people and its principled stance in defending Somalia’s unity.

Prince Faisal reaffirmed Saudi Arabia’s full support for the Federal Republic of Somalia, emphasizing Riyadh’s commitment to Somalia’s security and long-term stability. He stressed that Saudi Arabia rejects any actions that could undermine Somalia’s sovereignty or territorial integrity.

The talks also explored ways to enhance cooperation across multiple sectors, including political engagement and development, as part of broader efforts to deepen bilateral ties.

Saudi Arabia remains one of Somalia’s key international partners, providing long-standing diplomatic backing, humanitarian assistance, and development support. The meeting comes amid heightened regional and diplomatic tensions, as Somalia continues to seek international backing for its territorial integrity.

No specific agreements were announced following the talks, but both sides described the discussions as constructive and reaffirmed their intention to further strengthen cooperation.
