DOHA, Qatar — The Minister of Defense of the Federal Republic of Somalia, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, on Friday attended the graduation ceremony of joint officers trained at military academies in the State of Qatar, including a cohort of Somali officers.
The ceremony took place at the Ahmed bin Mohammed Military College and was officially concluded by the Amir of the State of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, who presented medals to officers who achieved top academic and professional distinctions.
Speaking on the sidelines of the event, Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi commended the Qatari government for its continued support to Somalia’s security sector, particularly in the training and professional development of the Somali National Army. He said the expertise and skills gained by the graduating officers would contribute significantly to strengthening the capacity, discipline, and effectiveness of Somalia’s armed forces.
The minister emphasized that Somalia places high value on its defense cooperation with Qatar, describing military training and capacity building as a key pillar in rebuilding and modernizing national defense institutions.
The graduation ceremony was also attended by the Commander of the Somali National Army, Odowaa Yusuf Rage, who accompanied the defense minister during his official working visit to Qatar.
Somalia and Qatar have maintained close cooperation in security and defense, with a focus on training, institutional development, and support for Somalia’s long-term stability and state-building efforts.
