President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud Begins Official Visit to Qatar for High-Level Talks

DOHA — Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud arrived in the Qatari capital on Friday for an official working visit aimed at strengthening bilateral relations between Somalia and the State of Qatar.

Leading a high-level delegation, President Mohamud received a formal diplomatic welcome upon arrival, reflecting the close ties between Mogadishu and Doha. During his stay, he is expected to hold meetings with senior Qatari leaders, including Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, to discuss expanding cooperation in security, economic development, political coordination, and regional affairs.

According to Somali officials, the talks will focus on reinforcing the strategic partnership between the two countries, aligning Somalia’s development priorities with Qatar’s investment capacity, and enhancing collaboration on stability and governance.

The visit forms part of a broader diplomatic outreach by Somalia to strengthen international alliances and secure support for the country’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. Somali authorities say the engagement is intended to advance national interests and address ongoing security and economic challenges.

Qatar remains one of Somalia’s key regional partners, providing assistance in sectors including security, infrastructure, humanitarian aid, and military training. Qatari officials have also consistently voiced support for Somalia’s national unity and opposition to external actions perceived as threatening its territorial integrity.

The Doha visit comes amid shifts in Somalia’s regional foreign policy and is seen as a step toward deepening strategic cooperation with Gulf partners while promoting stability and economic growth at home.
