The United States and Israel have launched large scale military strikes across Iran, marking one of the most serious escalations in the Middle East in decades. Explosions were reported in Tehran and other cities, with some of the attacks targeting areas near Iran’s top leadership and military infrastructure. US President Donald Trump confirmed that “major combat operations” were underway, while Israeli officials described the assault as a coordinated campaign aimed at weakening Iran’s government and military capabilities.
Iran responded quickly, launching missiles and drones toward Israel and targeting US military installations in several Gulf countries, including Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, and the United Arab Emirates. Air defence systems intercepted many of the incoming projectiles, but explosions and falling debris caused panic in multiple cities. Sirens sounded across Israel, public gatherings were banned, and hospitals moved patients to underground facilities as authorities warned of additional waves of attacks.
Civilian casualties have already been reported, with Iranian state media saying dozens of people were killed in strikes on a girls’ school in southern Iran. Other deaths were reported in different parts of the region as missile debris and airstrikes hit populated areas. Airports suspended flights, airspace closures were imposed, and residents across the Gulf scrambled for safety as the conflict expanded beyond Iran’s borders.
Iranian officials strongly condemned the attacks, calling them illegal and warning that their armed forces would continue to defend the country. At the same time, international leaders and the United Nations urged restraint and warned that further escalation could result in widespread destruction and humanitarian suffering. Diplomatic efforts that had been underway to address tensions over Iran’s nuclear program now appear at risk of collapse.
The situation remains volatile, with fears growing that the confrontation could turn into a broader regional war involving multiple countries. Military forces remain on high alert, and further strikes and retaliation are expected as both sides continue to exchange attacks, raising global concerns over stability, civilian safety, and the future of the Middle East.
