Mogadishu police have arrested renowned journalist Ali Aden Mumin, citing charges of “security destabilization and defamation of leadership.”
The Banadir Regional Police Command confirmed that Mumin was detained at the Hamar-Weyne police station following a late-night operation. In an official statement, authorities emphasized that he would be brought before the relevant court for legal proceedings.
“The Somali Police Force, particularly the Hamar-Weyne Police Station, has arrested suspect Ali Aden Mumin on charges of security destabilization and defamation of leadership,” the statement read.
The police further urged Somali citizens to refrain from spreading misinformation or engaging in activities that could undermine national security.
Mumin, a vocal critic of the Somali federal government, has recently been highlighting shortcomings in the administration’s leadership.
Following news of his arrest, reports surfaced on social media alleging that Banadir Regional Police Commander Maalim Mahdi had invited Mumin to his home for iftar, only to detain him afterward. However, Akhbar Media, have been unable to verify these claims.
