Fresh reports indicate that Al-Shabaab has suffered significant losses in recent weeks amid ongoing military operations in Somalia’s Middle Shabelle region.
Akhbar Media has obtained exclusive intelligence confirming the death of a senior Al-Shabaab commander, Ahmed Fiidshe, who was responsible for collecting zakat (forced taxation) for the militant group. Fiidshe was reportedly killed in an airstrike targeting Biyo Adde town in Middle Shabelle.
The strike, carried out jointly by the Somali National Army (SNA) and U.S. forces, also eliminated several other militants traveling in armed vehicles. According to Somali government sources, nearly 50 Al-Shabaab fighters were killed in the operation.
A statement from Somalia’s Ministry of Information confirmed: “The National Army, with support from international partners, conducted an airstrike in Biyo Adde, Middle Shabelle, killing 44 members of the Khawarij group, including key leaders and fighters.”
Additionally, multiple military vehicles used by Al-Shabaab were destroyed, including one equipped with a ZU-23-2 anti-aircraft gun.
The Somali government, with the support of local militias and international allies, has intensified operations against Al-Shabaab, liberating several strategic areas in recent days. Airstrikes continue to play a crucial role in weakening the group’s operational capabilities, with Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) working closely with allied forces to target key militant figures.
