Intense and continuous airstrikes hit the town of Daarunima from last night until today morning, causing panic among civilians in Aadan Yabaal, Al-Kowsar, and surrounding areas.
The bombardment, which began early in the evening, reportedly targeted hideouts used by Al-Shabaab militants who had recently infiltrated the Middle Shabelle region. The strikes were described as powerful and highly precise, shaking the nearby towns.
Videos circulating on social media show massive flames and thick smoke rising into the sky following the aerial assault on Daarunima, a town the militants had seized just days earlier.
Reports indicate that the airstrikes inflicted heavy casualties on Al-Shabaab fighters and their leaders, though the exact number of those killed remains unclear.
Meanwhile, the Somali government has not yet released an official statement regarding the overnight operation near Aadan Yabaal in the Middle Shabelle region.
Similar airstrikes were also reported in Eelbaraf, where significant losses were reportedly inflicted on Al-Shabaab.
Unverified sources suggest that Ethiopian, UAE, and Turkish forces may have played a role in the sustained bombardment, which is part of a broader strategy to weaken Al-Shabaab’s operational capabilities following their recent attacks in the region.
The Somali government, in collaboration with local communities, continues its military campaign in the Hirshabelle region to counter Al-Shabaab’s activities and prevent their resurgence.
