Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), in coordination with international partners, has announced the successful elimination of a senior Al-Shabaab commander in a targeted airstrike in the Eel-Ba’ad area of the Middle Shabelle region.
In an official statement, NISA confirmed that the strike killed multiple Al-Shabaab militants, including a key operative, Yusuf Dheganaas, who was responsible for overseeing the group’s activities in Eel-Ba’ad. The operation also resulted in the destruction of armed vehicles used by the militants.
According to NISA, Yusuf Dheganaas had been terrorizing local communities, extorting money from civilians, and instilling fear in the region. His elimination marks a significant blow to the militant group’s operations in Middle Shabelle.
The ongoing military campaign, conducted by NISA and the Somali National Army (SNA) with the support of international allies, has reportedly killed more than twenty Al-Shabaab fighters and destroyed key militant assets. The Somali government has reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating the extremist group, which it refers to as Khawarij, and restoring security across the country.
