Reports from the Middle Shabelle region indicate that today, a series of powerful airstrikes targeted key locations linked to Al-Shabaab in the area. One of the attacks took place in the Damasha Shabeelow region, near Oobaale, part of the Mahadhaay district.
According to information obtained by Akhbaar Media, fighter jets carried out the strikes, followed by several hours of smaller explosions, which are believed to have been mines and supplies left behind by the militants.
The second round of airstrikes targeted the Oobaale bridge, which had already been hit by a heavy bombardment yesterday. The site was again struck today, further damaging it.
A third target was the Abdirisak Farm, located to the west of the Shabelle River. This site is believed to be a key base for the Al-Shabaab leadership operating in the Middle Shabelle region.
Reports suggest that from last night to this morning, a significant number of Al-Shabaab fighters were relocated back to Damasha and the Abdirisak farm, which were the two areas struck today.
In a related development, Al-Shabaab militants have reportedly withdrawn from the Aadleey area, which falls under the jurisdiction of Eel Baraf district. The militants had been stationed there for several days but left following pressure from a combined force of government troops and local residents, who gathered in the Laba Garas, Bursho Kheekh, and Raagacelle areas to launch counteractions against the group.
