Somalia’s National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has successfully apprehended Al-Shabaab operatives planning to carry out bomb attacks in the capital, Mogadishu.
According to a statement released by NISA, a meticulously planned security operation was conducted on the outskirts of Daynile district, Banadir region. During this operation, security forces captured two Al-Shabaab operatives identified as Nur Muhyadeen Jibril and Mohamed Abdirahman Mohamud.
“At the time of their capture, they were actively preparing to smuggle explosives into the city, including eight improvised explosive devices (IEDs): three pressure-plate bombs, five adhesive bombs, and two F1 grenades,” the statement revealed.
In a separate, intelligence-led operation in Dharkenley district, NISA forces arrested another Al-Shabaab militant, Ali Mohamed Abdi, also known within the terror group as Maaruf and Ali Foowdo.
He had reportedly been dispatched to Mogadishu to orchestrate attacks, following previous successful counterterrorism operations by NISA that dismantled key Al-Shabaab networks involved in assassinations and bombings.
The statement reaffirmed NISA’s commitment to intensifying counterterrorism operations aimed at eliminating remaining Al-Shabaab commanders and fighters who continue plotting attacks against the Somali people.
