The Federal Government of Somalia has provided details on a planned military operation that lasted several hours and targeted Al-Shabaab militants in the Middle Shabelle region.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Information, Somali National Army (SNA) forces launched a precision strike against Al-Shabaab leaders and fighters who had gathered on the outskirts of Sumadale. The operation unfolded as planned, resulting in the elimination of all militants present at the site.
“All the Al-Shabaab leaders and fighters in the area were neutralized, unable to escape from the special forces who were operating with comprehensive intelligence support,” the government statement declared.
The government hailed the operation as a significant success in the ongoing fight against the militant group.
Meanwhile, the Somali National Army also thwarted another attack launched by Al-Shabaab near Sabid and Anole, where the army has established strong defensive positions. The battle, which lasted several hours, ended in a decisive defeat for the militants.
“The enemy fled the battlefield, leaving behind the bodies of dozens of their fighters,” the statement added.
The Somali government reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating Al-Shabaab, with continued military efforts supported by the Somali people and international allies.
