Senior officials from Federal Government of Somalia and commanders of the Somali National Army gathered in Mogadishu for a special iftar event to honour soldiers who lost their lives in ongoing operations against Al‑Shabaab.
The ceremony, held during the holy month of Ramadan, brought together key government figures including Defence Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, Education Minister Farah Sheikh Abdulkadir, Transport Minister Mohamed Abdullahi Farah (Nuux), Ports Minister Abdulkadir Mohamed Nur, and State Minister for Internal Security Mohamed Ali Haga.
Military leadership was also present, led by Chief of Defence Forces Brigadier General Ibrahim Mohamed Mohamud, alongside senior officers and representatives from international partners supporting Somalia’s counterterrorism efforts.
During the event, prayers were offered for the fallen soldiers, with officials describing their deaths as a sacrifice made in defence of the country, its people, and their faith. Speakers paid tribute to the courage and dedication of troops engaged in frontline operations.
Minister Fiqi praised the armed forces for their continued efforts against Al-Shabaab, highlighting recent operational successes that have led to the liberation of new areas. He noted that these gains have contributed to improved security, allowing citizens to observe Ramadan in relative peace.
Officials also emphasised that the sacrifices of fallen soldiers would not be forgotten, reaffirming the government’s commitment to supporting the armed forces and continuing military operations aimed at restoring stability across Somalia.
